Principal’s Penguin Post

Have a great summer!  This will be our last Ice Page newsletter for this school year. Thank you moms, dads, grandmas, granddads, etc. for your continued support to our staff, school and programs.   On behalf of the staff and students, I would like to wish everyone a safe and fun-filled summer vacation!  Parents, please encourage your children to read over the summer—at least 20 minutes per day, keep a journal of all the fun things that they do or places they travel, and complete their math packet.  Students, be ready to return next year a little older, wiser and taller!  Have a great time--see you in August!

Reminders:

*Media Center: Students should have returned all library books by June 1, 2010.  Students who do not return or pay for their lost/damaged items before the close of school year will not have their final report card sent to their home.  These report cards will be held at the school and can be picked up in the office after each book has been returned or paid for.  As the cost for books and other instructional materials rises, we ask everyone to please take care of our books.  Please contact Mrs. Klingner, media specialist, at the school if you would like to know if your child has a book missing. Thanks!

*Cafeteria payments:  Parents, this is a final reminder that if your child's lunch account is currently carrying a negative balance, your child’s report card will be held until the balance is resolved.  Please be sure that you send your child with enough money to bring his/her lunch account balance to a positive level—our school must pay for these unpaid balances out of monies intended for instructional materials for our students.  Thank you!

Open House for the start of the 2010-2011 school year has been scheduled for Friday, August 27th; 1-3 p.m. Classroom assignments will be posted in the front windows, shortly before we open the doors--at approximately 12:50 p.m.  And believe it or not, school will begin for the next year on August 30th!

Quote for the Week: “Every morning some 42 million American children gulp their breakfast, grab their books, slam the front door, and dash off to class. Among them go not one but several future presidents of the United States, a handful of Supreme Court justices and dozens of future cabinet members.”….John Gardner

Message from the outgoing PTA President

Dear WT Page Community,

For nearly 10 years now I have been involved with our school in some way and have been honored to have been PTA President twice.  As with all things, change comes and we move on.  My two daughters and I have been very blessed to have you as our family; you helped us, protected us, challenged us, and loved us - for that I can never say Thank You enough.

Over the years I've seen the old Page go, walked the bus lines at the holding school during the sniper crisis, seen the new Page rise from the ground and be rededicated.  I've been able to work with Mr. Fred Green and Ms. Deb Berner as they guided the school through the decade.  I've seen our staff additions, retirements, and early passings.  Laughed and sweated with the ever evolving PTA membership during the carnivals, dances, book fairs, field trips, and spring cleaning - I shall remember them all.

I have learned much over these years and still have so very much more to learn.  Fortunately, I too have received a stellar education at WT Page - A Great Place To Learn!

I ask one more thing though.  I would very much like to continue on as the unofficial gardener (for another decade and more) and ask the PTA and school's blessings to allow me to keep the sunflowers coming and the vincas blooming.

Your Friend, Now and Always.
