I
hope everyone had a safe and restful Memorial Day weekend that also included
taking some time to remember family, friends, and even our own U.S. servicemen
who have lost their lives in current wartime efforts.
In
the last few Ice Page issues, I will be reminding everyone about activities
coming up or many of the end of the year tasks that need to be completed prior
to the closing of school for the summer. Here are a few:
- As
we near the end of the school year, the Media Center wanted to put out a
reminder about library books. Students
must return all library books by this Monday, June 1, 2009.
Students will be notified if they have books that have not been returned
or were returned damaged. Students who do not return or pay for
their lost/damaged items before the close of school year will not
have their final report card sent to their home. These report cards
will be held at the school and can be picked up in the office after each
book has been returned or paid for. As the cost for books and other
instructional materials rises, we ask everyone to please take care of our
books. Thanks!
- A
letter and optional profile form was sent home with your child last
Tuesday for you to give input regarding your child. The information you
provide takes the place of individual teacher requests which may be
considered but not always accepted, and is your opportunity to share what
elements you believe should be a part of your child’s educational
environment. When we group classes for the next year, we take many factors
into account, including gender and race, as well as those students who
need optimal support service in math, reading, resource, speech/language
and gifted/talented. It is a very lengthy process and often takes my
participation in 4-5 meetings from early spring to late summer to
determine the final make up of the classrooms. Once again, completion of
this form is optional but one way you can share input about your child
with the school. Please return this profile in a sealed envelope to your
child’s teacher by this Friday, May 29, 2009.
