Just a reminder: The Maryland School Assessment (MSA) testing has started in MCPS and at Page ES!! Grades 3 and 4 just completed the reading portion today and grade 5 will be testing tomorrow and Thursday.  Please ensure that your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a good breakfast and leaves the house with your full support.  Also remember to schedule any appointments after lunch; this will allow your child to participate fully in the assessments and help prevent a lot of make-up sessions. Lastly, PLEASE make sure that your child is here EVERY DAY throughout the testing window! Thank you for your help in this!
As we continue in the celebration of Woman’s History Month, here are some fast facts about women’s achievements:
All women were able to vote in the United States in 1920.
Although Paul Revere’s horse ride is a part of history, a 16 year-old girl, Sybil Ludington, made a similar ride in 1777 warning people in the town of Danbury, Connecticut that the British were invading.
Sakajawea was a Native American woman who befriended the explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, 150 years ago as they crossed the great Northwest. She helped Lewis and Clark's expedition complete the first successful overland transcontinental journey.
Lucretia Mott courageously wrote and spoke against slavery and the lack of equal rights for women, helping America recognize the inherent wrong in the institutional subjugation of others and the need to strive for equality, freedom, and justice for all.
Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman in America awarded a medical degree, and she dedicated her pioneering efforts as a physician to helping others.
Helen Keller overcame debilitating physical disabilities, showing us the power of a determined human spirit.
Clara Barton developed a vision for helping others through her service to the wounded during the Civil War; and she realized that vision by founding the American Red Cross after the war, an organization that has since become renowned for its effectiveness in helping those who suffer or are in need.
Finally, parents, please continue to discuss our 4 school rules with your child.  As the weather begins to get warmer, we will be going outside every day.  Unstructured times are when our students often forget their manners or the school rules.  We want our students thinking and acting on a stressful situation with their minds, not their hands.  Thank you for helping keep our students safe and in making good choices throughout the day!  Have a great week—see everyone through our doors by 8:45 am!
