Text Box: Principal’s Penguin Post
Don’t forget that we will begin the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) testing next Monday, March 16th, for grades 3, 4, and Wednesday, March 18th, for grade 5.  Please ensure that your child gets a good night’s rest, eats a good breakfast and leaves the house with your full support.  Also remember to schedule any appointments after lunch; this will allow your child to participate fully in the assessments and help prevent a lot of make-up sessions.  Thank you for your help in this! This is an extremely important time of the year and we need to support our students every way we can.  Please call your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding the assessment process.

A big thank you to parents of our ESOL students who took time out of their busy schedule to meet with our ESOL staff, Mrs. Arca, Mrs. Jehn, and Mrs. Ontiveros for an  ESOL Parent Breakfast today.  Everyone enjoyed talking with other parents, seeing    student work and watching some of the students perform in a special presentation.
As we continue in the celebration of Woman’s History Month, here are some famous women who have made significant contributions to our society:

1904: Mary McLeod Bethune, First woman to establish secondary school that became 4-year accredited college

1915: Blanche Scott, First woman to fly an airplane

1931: Jane Addams, First woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize

1932: Amelia Earhart, First woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean

1933: Ruth Bran Owen, First woman foreign diplomat

1935: Pearl S. Buck, First woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature

1939: Hattie McDaniel, First African American of any generation to win an Academy Award (for Best Supporting Actress in a film, Gone with the Wind)

Quote of the Week:  212° Believe, Achieve, and Succeed: “Somewhere out in this audience may even be someone who will one day follow in my footsteps, and preside over the White House as the President's spouse.  I wish him well!”......Barbara Bush, in remarks at Wellesley College Commencement, 6-1-90
