Text Box: Keep the Book Fair Going!!!

Like all PTA activities, the Book Fair is totally run by volunteers.  The next Book Fair is March 2-6, 2009, and we need daytime volunteers to help us keep the Book Fair going.  WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!

If you have any flexibility during the day (even if it's for only one hour), please send an e-mail to acmcghee@verizon.net or dkndc@msn.com to volunteer.

Thank you,
Amelia McGhee/DeBora King, Book Fair Co-Chairs

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I am hoping that this message finds everyone well-rested and ready to keep those resolutions made on New Year’s Eve!  As I introduced in September, we are striving to reach that extra degree---212°!  We will really be kicking up the heat and operating at 212° in everything we do, especially the next two months as we prepare for the Maryland State Assessments (MSA) and the TerraNova2 assessment.  Each assessment measures student skills in reading and mathematics.  As a staff, we resolve to continue the earnest work of preparing all of our students for success.  In turn, we encourage you to make the resolution to send your child/children to school every day (unless they are sick and contagious!); to maintain consistent homework and study routines for them; and to continue to read to them as much as time will allow!

As students return from the winter break we want to remind you that the end of the second quarter is quickly approaching.  Friday, January 23rd marks the end of the first semester with the second semester beginning on Tuesday, January 27th.  Student report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, February 3, 2009.

Cafeteria News:  Parents please check with Mrs. Viands, cafeteria manager, to verify the balance in your child’s lunch account.  It is very disappointing for your child not to receive a lunch because there is not enough money in their account.  Ms. Viands sends regular balance notices home for student accounts that are low every Tuesday in the communicator folder.  Students who do not have enough money in their accounts and who receive an alternate meal are required to reimburse the school.  Separate notices are sent home for these occurrences.

PTA Notes: On behalf of our staff, I want to thank our PTA parents, especially those of you who donated your time and money to provide a wonderful luncheon for our entire staff before the winter break!!  It sure was scrumptious and well appreciated by all!  Thank you so much for your support of what we do!  Finally, just a reminder, there is a PTA meeting tonight for the executive board. It begins at 7:00 pm in the media center.
