Text Box: Keep the Book Fair Going!!!

Like all PTA activities, the Book Fair is totally run by volunteers.  The next Book Fair is March 2-6, 2009, and we need daytime volunteers to help us keep the Book Fair going.  WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!

If you have any flexibility during the day (even if it's for only one hour), please send an e-mail to acmcghee@verizon.net or dkndc@msn.com to volunteer.

Thank you,
Amelia McGhee/DeBora King, Book Fair Co-Chairs

Wow!  The 2009 New Year is right around the corner! What a perfect opportunity for me to reflect on what we have here at W.T. Page ES--- diversity, family, and community.  The staff and students in our school come from many backgrounds, religions, countries and cultures and teach us new things daily.  In the past month, I have observed our Muslim families celebrating Eid al-Adha, Festival of Sacrifice, on December 8th.  Those who follow Buddhism celebrated Bodhi Day or the honoring of Siddhartha Guatama, the first Buddha, also on December 8th.  Our Jewish community just began Hannukah celebrations at sundown Sunday night where candles are lit for eight nights to celebrate the lasting of oil for 8 days. Christians will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ with Christmas on December 25th.  Finally, on December 26th, Kwanzaa, an African-American holiday based on the traditional African festival of the harvest of the first crops, will begin its 43rd annual celebration and last for seven days.  As I learned about these celebrations, I realized how lucky our students are to share these different customs with one another. It truly sheds light on the phrase: “It takes a whole village to raise a child”.  As we head into 2009, please do not forget to count the many blessings you have around you-- most importantly, your children.  See you next year!
