Text Box: Text Box: Resource News
In case you do not know who I am let me introduce myself.  I am Gail Mroczka, the Special Education Resource Teacher for Page Elementary.  My role here is to work with students who have been identified needing specialized instruction to access the general education curriculum, test and identify special education students, and consult/work with teachers on special education issues.  One of my favorite tasks is to have the opportunity to teach in the different grades along with the classroom teacher.  This gives me the chance to help all students who may be having difficulty with a particular skill or concept.
Another job that I acquired is that of Co-Test Coordinator.  I work with Mrs. Bridgwater in preparing staff, students, and materials for the standardize tests that students in grades 2 – 5 take each year.  If you have had the opportunity to visit Page this year you will see that we have started off the school getting the students prepared for these tests.  Posters are up in the halls throughout the school with math related questions for the students to think about.  Outside my office I have created a spot that I call, “Test Taking Tip of the Moment.”  Posted here are different tips or strategies that can be useful to the students at home while doing their homework and studying for tests.  These tips will change throughout the year and the students are welcome to take any that they have an interest in or think will help them.  The first topic covered was Study Space/Homework in Progress.  They had the opportunity to take a “Study Space Sign.”  They could design and hang it to show their family they had designated a particular space as their clutter free study space.  Our new tip is “Clutter Control.”  They can take a self-assessment to determine whether they are super organized or super sloppy!  Feel free to come by and pick one up when you are visiting.  Happy testing!  I can be reached by calling Page and just asking for me if you have any questions or concerns.  Gail Mroczka

Congratulations to our October 100 minute readers!  We had 237 students or 81 % of the school participate last month—how awesome is that?? Grades 1, 2 and 3 increased the most in the number of readers for the month. What an accomplishment—I am very, very proud, needless to say!  Please continue to encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes per day (the easiest way to get in the 100 minutes per week!) so they can participate this month—we are striving for 100% participation.  There are other reasons, however, that you should promote reading.  Here are just a few:
·          Children who read the most, read the BEST!
·          Reading difficulty is a problem that extends across socioeconomic strata - affluence is no guarantee of reading success.
·          Estimates indicate that at least 20 million of the nation's 53 million school-age children are poor readers - about two out of five children.
·          If a child is a poor reader at the end of First Grade, there is an almost 90% probability that the child will be a poor reader at the end of Fourth Grade.
·          10-15 minutes of daily reading shows a 20% increase on standardized tests
·          The student who scores in the 90th percentile or above is shown to be reading 5 times as much as the student who is scoring at the 50th percentile---that means that the 90th percentile student is reading approximately 45 minutes per day!
·          You ARE what you READ. Reading creates knowledge – both specialist and general knowledge. Knowledge is wisdom!
Please help us in educating your child—READ tonight, tomorrow, whenever you can! Instill the love of reading and books in your children!  On behalf of our staff—thank you for your support!
Quote of the week:  212° Commitment: “The more you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you'll go”……. Dr. Seuss, from “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”

Text Box: NEW DISMISSAL PROCEDURES FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER  FOR WALKERS/CAR RIDERS!
Last year’s indoor lineup worked fairly well but due to bus riders now being dismissed from the gym and the increase in the number of students getting picked up, our system needed to be revamped. Our first attempt was not as successful as we had hoped and we believe that we have come up with a smoother and more efficient indoor lineup procedure for the year. Please be patient with us as we are working on this together.
If you stay in your car, your child will be dismissed from the usual side entrance. All children will be sitting along the inside hall wall and will listen for their names to be called. Since the policy is to stay in your cars, please understand that those who choose to do so will have their child brought out to them. This allows for a smooth dismissal and no need to have anyone get wet in the process.
Please note that ONLY children who are getting into a car will be dismissed from the side exit. All others will need to be picked up from the side door. This eliminates the crowd and allows for those who follow the “Please stay in your car” policy to pick up their child quickly.
If your child walks home, they will be dismissed from the back kindergarten door only.
If you choose to park your car and pick up your child, you will need to pick them up from the back kindergarten door only.
If your child walks home with a middle school child, another adult, or waits for a patrol to get off duty, they will be dismissed
from the back kindergarten door only.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Ms. Berner or Mrs. Dean.

Text Box: Thanks for your interest in the Global Goods Partners fundraiser for the fall. When you can, please log onto their wonderful Web site and browse the great selection of fair-trade items made by artisans in developing countries. A purchase not only helps Page to raise money but also improves the quality of life of the artisans. Please consider sharing these flyers with friends, family, neighbors and colleagues in our efforts to raise dollars for the school. These are "feel good" purchases since we know they are for good causes on both ends.
